Now, With 100% More Madness

Want to write more? Write more. So sayeth the boosters over at WordPress. So in a fit of madness (and knowing that failure is, in fact, an option) I have tagged this with PostADay2011. In case you didn’t parse that long neologism, it means that I have ventured to post something every day. For the rest of the year. (Yes, I missed three already. Whatever.)

“What?!” I hear you cry! But Seonaid’s posts are LONG. They must take AGES! (If you hadn’t figured it out already, I don’t knock off those 1500 word essays in minutes. Some of them take me months.) I had been thinking about a posting schedule, anyway. So… anticipate more posts, fewer words. One of the main reasons I started this blog was to force myself to write more. If I transfer most of my twittering into writing, I should be able to carve out the time. And if I don’t, I’ll just keep slogging away, and give myself a B-minus.

Strategy #1: Wednesday will be The Meditation Report. This should be more entertaining than you expect. Last week, for example, I was struggling with concepts of Deism in a non-theistic religion. I will try not to include such details as, “And then I sat on my cushion for 14 more minutes.” This week my meditation was more focused on emptiness, and the fourth Noble Truth. Hey, Buddhist folk… how many people do you know that act as though they believe the Fourth Truth?

I have a stack of about 45 index cards with article ideas on my desk, although several of those tend more towards the 4000 word approach. Food. Education. Engineering. Ethics. Environmental Ethics. Engineering Education… 45 cards should provide a year’s worth of content, don’t you think?

Tuesday seems to default to Parenting. I will add in a weekly Book Review. Structure. I’ll give it a try. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll simply wander back to the old rambling approach.

Oh, yes. In other exciting news for the evening, allow me to point out that thepracticaldilettante.com will now point you at this blog. Also, in principle, you can send me mail at seonaid at thepracticaldilettante dot com… although I haven’t figured out *exactly* how to read it yet. I was waiting on a DNS update, or something. When I am sure that it will work, I will update my contact information accordingly. (1/362)

  1. RE: How many people do you know that act as though they believe the Fourth Truth?

My guess is that most of my sangha do believe and act as though they do believe, though I don’t really encounter any of them in their day-to-day life, so I can’t say for sure. But I think that to act as though you believe isn’t necessarily always to take the path of Right Action, Right Speech, and so on, but to honestly strive to do so. Or am I being too easy on all of us? As for me, I do believe, but I have a hard time seeing the middle way. I’m always falling to one side or the other. Or forgetting to look.

Anyway, all of this is very exciting. I mean your 100% madness and posting, posting, posting plans are exciting. Hurrah!

  2. I agree with Rachael your 100% madness and posting plans are exciting. I look forward to reading more. Good luck on the post a day challenge.

By the way, are we supposed to include PostaDay2011 in all the daily posts?

    • Hi Haley! I gather you are also in for this long haul? We’re supposed to include the tag on our posts, but I was lying in bed last night imagining my tag cloud if my next 350 posts all have the same tag on them… and I’m questioning the wisdom of that.

For now, though, it should draw readers. Maybe we can request a code change to leave it out of the cloud tag.

  3. I suggest that you either take advantage of pre-scheduling posts, or schedule time off from the post-a-day schedule.

Some days I need to unplug. I suspect that you might feel this need more keenly than I do.
